“My name is Meela Mensheng (Mee-Lah Men-Shing)
We natives of Fanlu are not too ceremonious as compared to some towns. Given the extraordinary conditions of our meeting, let us forgive any social graces which are not heeded, and beg a pardon from Twen Ch’ang for our short comings.”

“Yes…some leave an impression on this life that stays with us. Ki Lo Knee was such a man”

She kneels on the grey grass, motioning for you all to take a knee.

“Please, it’s rude to stand in his presence for too long”
When she does so the grass around where her knees seems to fade from grey to green.

Grey, you could swear the coy fish, though dispersed and floating with their bodies oriented in different directions, you could swear all their eyes are looking up through the shadowy waters at you.

“As for this place, you can get used to it. I’ve come to the point where I see through the walls, hardly notice them unless I have a reason to. For the living, it’s strange how life is so defined by form and non form, solid stone and thin air being the opposites that give everything a, well, context. Here, you learn to see light and shadow, and the flow of the mists, these things are like the walls and floors of this place, though the comparison is not perfect”

You follow her into a shadowy great room, lit only by the soft glow of a copper watchskull that hangs over a fireplace mantle on the far side.
The woman continues on and seems to wade through what must be a kitchen table, and then out through another wall that leads into a small garden situated off to the side of the house. All the details of this fine garden are literally out-shined by the radiant glow of a Human sized statue, set upon a rocky pedestal in the middle of a coy pond. Interestingly, the coy in the dark shadowy waters seem as real and present as you are, their vivid gold, orange, white, red and yellow scales gleam in the statue’s radiance.

“She motions to the statue, this is the great teacher, Ki Lo Knee, we’ll be safe in the glow, this is the safest place I can think of anywhere near by.”

There is a 6 ft high stone wall surrounding the gardens, you do actually feel safer.

    “Now, where were we?”

“She looks around for a moment, taking you all in, well you all don’t seem like you’re up to no good, and you’ve come dressed for just about anything, so you have that going for you.”

She seems to be considering something in the brief pause.

Stern, her demeanor is reserved, mater of fact, aloof, but beneath this you sense she is interested, concerned, and also playful.

“I can tell you all about those things, but first, how long have you been here, and has anyone else seen you? You’re not going to be safe here once word gets out. I think it might be better if we step through this wall into the garden so you’re not just standing on main street if you take my meaning, but we can stay here if you’d like.”

    Grey and Hroth…Everyone, you don’t see shit…

From the other side of the wall the muffled voice answers.
“My family petitioned my presence, and the Office of Ancestral Intercession granted me transit and license of intercession, so like I said, I’m supposed to be here.”

She says this all very matter of fact like she expects you to know what she’s talking about, then she steps out. The figure that cautiously steps out of the wall has a calm but guarded expression, which shifts to one of interest as you all stand there for a moment, taking each other in with an awkward silence

“You on the other hand…don’t belong here do you?”

Now to be clear, the thing that shot out of the wall and across the street is gone from view, so you really don’t get a great look at it Grognak, though there is the scary picture to look at… The voice is coming from a 2nd being behind the wall where the first one came from. The voice speaks again

    “I’m here by petition…”
There’s a brief pause, followed an almost motherly sigh
“Point is, I’m supposed to be here, am I safe to come out?”

A muffled voice from the other side of the wall where the thing came from…human, a deep female voice, calm and firm…
“Hello out there, Is it gone? I’m coming out in peace, don’t want to startle you”

You are all expertly moving into position as something bolts out of the wall you are about to bolt into. A grey man shaped blur, fast, it darts past you and to the opposite side of the street in an instant. It pauses for a split second, turning to leer back at you for just a moment before stepping backwards into the wall behind it.

    The Grey Shadow

Hroth, your right arm feels strange and numb…you think you hit it as it ran by but you’re not sure. The thing was amazingly fast.

With, purpose, but cautiously, you creep through the grey town. The shadows of people on the other side drift by from time to time, giving you pause. when they come close, you feel a tingle of life and the hairs on your neck raise…you wonder if they feel the same from you. There is no sun to be seen, nothing to navigate by except the twisting streets, and not all of them have a name plate on every corner. It is only by the grace of Grey, basically taking 10 on knowledge local checks, that you find your way. He is convinced you are somewhere in southern Redtown. He leads you west first, snaking down narrow alleys, walking through the shadowy stone of garden walls and cutting through peoples side yards and gardens. The soft metallic glow of watchskulls hung over back doors and on the eves of porches lights your ways as the already grey sky seems to darken. Your travel must be slow and methodical, or else risk getting lost.

Then at last you emerge from a side alley onto a broad lane. A shadowy horse and rider on the other side gallops by in strange silence, almost making you jump. Now Grey knows he was right, this is Founder’s Way, the main street that cuts across Redtown running north to south. You know exactly where you are in town, and that’s huge. All up and down the broad, cobbled street, copper and silvery colored skulls glow along the eve’s of the 3 and 4 story buildings. The buildings themselves are like shadowy giants lit up with the strange metallic halos of mystical light. More muted glows emanate through the seams of shuddered windows and doors, Outlining some in pale fiery lines. Strange symbols that glow neon blue, the sigils of abjuration spells, invisible from the mortal realm, but ablaze with power when seen from this side of things, are scribed upon some of the doors you see, or on the eves of the homes themselves. This world is a contrast of colorless vagary, and vibrant halos that seem to float in the grey mists.

Grey stops, that’s it he whispers, the gate out to Trade Way.

“That gate leads out of Redtown. Just on the other side this road runs into Trade Way. We go left on Trade Way, then about an eighth of a mile down, right before we hit Southtown, a narrow road will split off and lead us south up to the summit of the Sleeping Mountain. I’m sure of where we are, we can move more quickly now”

Something moves over near the gate, fading into a shadowy hedgerow of junipers across the street and to the left of the gate. Grey, and Grog, you two see it…man sized, that’s all you caught before it drew back out of sight. Then a muffled scream or shout from behind the wall directly to your right, from inside the very house you’re standing next to..what do you do?

Just replying to my own post to see how this thing works now that I’ve made one. Wow, how insightful Jeff, my character pretty much spends the rest of his days just walking around with Detect magic constantly on! Not sure why the text of the post is overflowing into the post menu like that? Now post you dogs! Reply I Say, lest I bite my thumb at thee!
